The Coca-Cola Easter Show is the largest, most exciting live event in Auckland, with a circus, entertainment, rides, and characters and is also home to the A&P Show.
An iconic Auckland event in every sense, the Coca-Cola Easter Show is all about bringing town and country together in New Zealand's largest family event.
The Coca-Cola Easter Show had its beginnings 168 years ago, beginning as a purely agricultural event to help the fledgling colony develop a sound farming economy. The first A&P show was held in 1843. The aims of the event were to demonstrate excellence in agriculture and animal husbandry, and to promote the breeding of stud animals to establish and increase the farm animal gene pool in the emerging colony.
In 1910, the Auckland Showgrounds were established on Greenlane Road with the first show on the new grounds in 1911. This is now known as ASB Showgrounds, which is owned and operated by the Auckland Agricultural Pastoral and Industrial Shows Board.
Since then the Show has gone from strength to strength. Visitor numbers each range between 50,000 and 82,000 people as the show remains an exciting event for all the family.
HOLLYWOOD HORRORS LEADS LINE-UP OF NEW ATTRACTIONS FOR THE COCA-COLA EASTER SHOW 2013
Auckland’s Coca-Cola Easter Show continues its resurgence in 2013 with a huge line-up of new acts and attractions, including the spine tingling Hollywood Horrors.
The latest scary attraction to come out of the US, Hollywood Horrors features scenes from 13 of Hollywood’s most famous horror movies including Friday The 13th, The Exorcist, Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Childs Play and The Shining.
According to Xtra Ordinary Events Director, Mr Jay Jones, “Hollywood Horrors is the scariest attractions to come to New Zealand in years, challenging all senses. It incorporates live actors, 20 animatronics and over 30 special effects,” said Jay.
“Prepare to scream at the top of your lungs and be petrified as all of your nightmares come true in this spine tingling new adventure,” he said.
Hollywood Horrors will be the highlight of an entirely new Carnival arena at the Easter Show, with rides shipped in from Australia and around the country, including a huge Ghost Train being built especially for the show and a giant Euro Slide.
Says Mark Frankham, CEO of the ASB Showgrounds and Coca-Cola Easter Show Director, “the rides this year have never been seen before in Auckland, so if you’re keen for a thrill, then the 2013 Coca-Cola Easter Show will have you on the edge of your seat.”
It’s not all horror at the show however and this year music takes centre stage. Along with the Cultural Stage running throughout the event, with performances by JGeeks, Phenomenon and the Brazilian Divas, there will be two high profile concerts in the Logan Campbell Theatre.
First up, popular new boyband Titanium will perform on the main stage supported by 18 year old singer/songwriter Massad and dynamic musical duo Jupiter Project. On the following night, the ever-popular Dane Rumble takes the stage supported by Massad and Jupiter Project.
Both shows will feature signings by the bands before the performance and will finish in time for the fireworks scheduled to happen each night at 9.00pm.
But the entertainment doesn’t stop there, with other attractions including Zirka Circus, with the all new Wheel of Death and crowd favourite Globe of Death. SpottyWot and DottyWot from Pukeko Pictures’ preschool series, The WotWots, perform live shows daily and the internationally acclaimed lumberjack extravaganza The Canadian Bush Whackers Show returns by popular demand.
Plus all the animals are there also, with flocks, herds, gaggles and broods of all manner of farm animals in New Zealand’s biggest indoor A&P show.
Says Frankham, “the 2013 year’s Coca-Cola Easter Show is easily the best in years - with so much to see and do for the whole family, why would you leave town this Easter?”
