The ViewWellington Review
Vibe
Take one step inside Thunderbird Cafe and you'll soon realise just how important staff are to the overall success of venture in the hospo trade. Although reasonably new, Thunderbird Cafe's pedigree is infallible - the same friendliness demonstrated at Sweet Mother's Kitchen (and was a hallmark of that restaurants success), is clearly on display here. It's also the little touches that help - knitted animals in place of a table numbering system is one such quirky example of this cafe looking to offer something a bit different.
Service
Personable and friendly, you really got the feeling that this was one cafe where indeed, 'everybody knew your name'.
Drinks List
Limited Wine selection but with Corona specials matching the mexican-inspired food, who would want wine anyway.
Highlights
The Chicken Quesadillas we're tasty but there just weren’t enough of them - at $13.00 well-priced but in need of a side serving of Curly Fires ($6.50).
Most Suprising Dish
My dining companions' Shore Schenk Burger definitely fell within this category - a grilled fish fillet burger served with Remoulade proved to be a very sound selection.
The Bottom Line
Thunderbird Cafe is not your a-typical cafe but that's what makes it so appealing. Combinations of tasty, different food and warm, familiar service make Thunderbird Cafe one of the best Wellington currently has to offer.
A Reason To Return
The 'Burns Scramble' is one reason - come to think of it there's certainly a number of Brunch dishes that did spike my curiosity.
