The location is amazing, being right on the waterfront, the staff are very friendly and helpful but the food is just alright. Being a restaurant in conjunction with Shed 5, I expected really great things. The food is nice enough, however being a 'Crab Shack' the crab menu items they have are few and far between, that's considering when they actually have crab on the menu. I have been here various times and it's always been the same thing, the crab was unavailable. It's an interesting place and if you're looking for something seafood related in town it's a good enough go to.

Very good - loved the atmosphere and the location, not to mention the great food! My partner and I shared a crab and let, me tell you - it's hard work to eat but really worth it as was absolutely delicious! Not the place to go if you don't want to get too messy but if you're in the mood for great seafood this is the place. Might be worth booking in advance as it gets busy in the evenings.

Arrived at 6pm on a Saturday night to find a 30 minute wait in the Shed 5 bar which was acceptable.

We were seated near the kitchen so could watch the meals being prepared and ordered White Sangria, Salmon and Calamari Rings as starters followed by Catch of The Day (Groper, served with Potato Hash and Coleslaw) and Steak (also served with Potato Hash and Coleslaw). Felt a little bad not ordering Crabs being the specialty but the food was amazing and very well priced.

Living in Wellington we are spoilt - surrounded by the sea which is abundant with fresh seafood - only a fishing line throw away. So I went to the Crab shack with high expectations...which weren't met. I'm not 100% convinced that seafood is local, or even from NZ waters?
I'll stick to diving and fishing for my own - much cheaper and fresher.

Went to the crab shack last night, the sea food was amazing, cute little jar of creamed corn, fish burger, kilo of crab, steak on the other hand not so good.

tables were 2 small, cluttered with left over cutlery and un used water glasses. The waitress was poorly trained, gave us a dirty side plate to use, when we asked for a clean plate she walked away and came back scraping the plate clean with her fingernail. only one finger bath was given for a shared order of crab.

prices were good, a little wait for a table but the host called us and let us know when one was free.

would defiantly go back with the hope of better service.

haven't had much luck at the Crab Shack. Not anything to do with service of quality - just actually getting the chance to try it.
First time around I attempted to go but it was absolutely heaving so felt better of it and the next time, well, put that down to an act of god (the earthquakes).
Third time lucky - and I'm glad I perservered. Great attitude from the staff was the immediate thing I was impressed by. The sun flickers into the sea facing dining area (we opted for the elevated space) and the tone is set.
The food - in a word fantastic. The crab cakes (from the starters menu) were great, only to be followed by the chilli crab linguine - I wasn't sold on the idea of crab for every option but I'm so glad I did.
No room for dessert I'm afraid, but plenty for great wine. Loved the Reisling and thought it was pretty well priced.
Barring any shakes, you can count me in for multiple return visits to the Crab Shack!

My oh my - dream come true! Had lunch at the Crab Shack today and every bit as good as I had imagined it would be. From the setting (really cool) to the staff and most importantly, that damn tasty food.
The sliders are a good choice if there's a few of you wanting try various things - but take my advice and order by the scoop...cloudy bay clams and indian coconut curry sauce - can't go wrong! The wine list at the Crab Shack is also pretty good so a few afternoon drinks there could be dangerous. Well done Simon and co, well done!
