Awesome tapas restaurant! So many amazing dishes to choose from - makes it hard to choose... Went with a group of people for the Wellington on a Plate menu - wow, the sardines and tiramisu were to die for!! Already planning the next visit...

We went for an early meal at Ombra and were glad we did - by 7pm all the tables were taken and there was a queue out the door. Ombra reminds me of places I've been in Venice and other parts of Italy - the free nibbles at the counter to pick from upon the purchase of drinks in particular took me back to a night out with friends in Milan. The Polenta Chips, Prawn Risotto and Pizza Breads were favourites, though the prawns themselves were a little too authentic for me - still complete with heads and shells etc.

I often don't bother about new places that are as popular as Ombra - you have to wait for a table, it's crowded and noisy, you may be forgotten at the bar forever and then there's the wait for food! Usually, I just wait for the novelty to wear off before attempting to go. But with Ombra that did not happen - still as busy as ever! So I gave in and picked a week day and got in early - still crowded but not as it would be on a Friday night. And was it worth it? Oh YES!!! The staff is attentive and I miraculously got a table within 5 minutes before my mate even got there. The food arrived fairly quickly and was absolutely amazing. The menu is fresh and original and everything we have given a go we really enjoyed. I highly recommend the lamb, the beetroot gnocchi and their tiramisu is to die for - very light, sweet and perfect. I can see what the hype is all about now. Definitely the place if you feel like great food. Can't wait to visit again!

Love Love Love Ombra - downright tasty new italian restaurant that is both welcoming and actually pretty reasonably priced. Ombra is already proving to be pretty popular amongst Wellington foodies so do be prepared to wait a while - but that's even more excuse to indulge.
