One of Wellington’s favourite places to indulge on special occasions. We had a birthday to celebrate so we booked the famous high tea - and it was up to all the reviews and expectations! A perfect combination of little sweet and savoury treats, all delicious and gorgeous to look at. Great service, also fantastic selection of teas. I tried the chocolate peanut one - and the taste was as good as the smell. The restaurant is stunning as an extra bonus. Highly recommend it. Can’t wait to try their a la Carte.

Beautiful place to go for high tea to celebrate a special occasion. With sweeping views of the water, highly attentive staff and some impressive artwork on the walls the scene is set for a first class experience before you even order. A range of tea, cocktail and sparkling wine choices complement small food items it is impossible to pick a favourite between. Book well in advance as they are very popular for good reason.

If you've been saving your pennies and want to treat you and yours to an extra special night out then book a table at Hippopotamus. The menu is unsurprisingly pricey, but there is a reason for it. The plate of aperitifs alone are usually worth their weight in gold, and more than whet the appetite before the main event.

The win list matches the food in excellence and taste, and the waiting staff are well versed, so don't be reluctant to ask questions about what you're planning to dig into. One tip however, if you are planning on going, make sure it's at night and you get a window seat as the view over the waterfront is well worth, and a great accompaniment to the delicious food and sumptuous surrounds.

Went to Hippopotamus, in the Museum Hotel, for Dinner yesterday and thought it was great - the French food was delicious and the service was polite and efficient. Recommended!
