Libraries are not known for their eateries but Wellington City Library has one of the best cafes in Wellington. Overlooking both the library and Civic Square, you can really enjoy people watching as you sip your coffee. It has a wide selection of savoury food for a hearty breakfast or lunch, and the choice of sweet snacks on offer can just be too much.

It can get very busy, especially at lunch time so don't go there always expecting a seat. Clarks is also one of the best places to bring the kids if you need to take a break and have a coffee or a bite to eat. Crying babies become part of the lively atmosphere of hustle and bustle, and if the kids get bored as you catch up with friends or enjoy the surrounds then it has its own play area. If that's not enough for them then it is situated perfectly above the kids books section.

The smell of coffee as you go into the library is usually too much for me to resist. Lots to choose from food-wise and I have to say most of my choices have been rather lovely. Can get a little noisy but guess that reflects the popularity of this spot.
