St John's Bar Information

St Johns Heineken Hotel at 5 Cable Street in Wellingtons CBD is a fantastic new bar and restaurant in a waterfront location near Te papa.

St Johns has an outstanding history as the ambulance building in the 1930's, a great music venue in the late 80's and 90's and now a modern, comfortable and stylish fitout make this art deco architectural masterpiece the place to visit while in town.

International beers such as Heineken, Tiger, Amstel and Erdinger are on Tap as well as New Zealand's finest craft beers which makes this a great place to meet for a drink, meal or to recharge the batteries Monday to Sunday.

I enjoyed very nice platter with a friend recently. Staff were very attentive and helpful. Always a lovely spot on sunny days on the lawn.

We arrived at this bar around 4 on a sunny Friday afternoon - the afterwork crowd were just starting to arrive and the place had a great atmosphere to it. A great spot for the afternoon sun with outside table service. Being a db bar this is comparable to others such as ones in Auckland however the location and set up is fantastic! There was an outside stoneleigh wine bar with dj's and live acoustic - with the sun, wine and music it was a great recipe. Great selection of beers and wines however I'd avoid the food and just appreciate the ambience and location.

nice spot in the sun for a drink but food was terrible we had a large table and our food was cold and meat was over done. Then only offered free tea and coffee when complained!!
would not recomend for dinner at all.

Brilliant spot, especially on sunny weekends - the sort of place where the location sells itself really. Sometimes hard to find room outside but I guess great minds think alike! Think the food can be a bit lacking at times, had the calamari last time I was there and found it a bit too oily for my liking.
