Sadly, I don't think this really makes it as a feature film. The plot is a bit weak and rather depressing but the latter is not surprising considering Metallica never really did happy songs - it's all war, death, imprisonment, insanity. And that's on a good day.

The gig part is worth a watch as they still got it technically. As a long term fan the stage show annoyed me though. I think stardom went to their heads and most of that stuff is not really necessary.

The music is really enough - the whole Master of Puppets album still blows me away and I recently bought Ride the Lightning LP (pink vinyl, green sleeve! Thanks, Vinyl Countdown of New Plymouth) which is also excellent and they did a lot of songs off those. I also have an obsession with Orion that never really faded so whenever I hear that especially live I go into a trance.

So approach with caution - as my friend who accompanied me learnt the hard way, this is no doco:-). Probably more of a fans only thing.
