We had a quick chat to Reece Mastin, winner of The X-Factor Australia, who visited Auckland in the lead up to his first New Zealand tour in April.
How are you finding New Zealand?
Reece Mastin
Pretty good, pretty good, it’s my first time out here but not too bad!
Where in the world would you most like to perform?
Reece Mastin
I don’t know, really...
Apart from New Zealand, obviously...
Reece Mastin
Yeah, [laughs] I’d love to go back to England at some point, just because I haven’t been back since we moved to Australia about six years ago now.
So who are some of your musical icons?
Reece Mastin
I just like the old shit, like the Gunners [laughs] Guns N’ Roses, Aerosmith, Santana... I love him!
You’re a bit of a rocker, now what other genres of music are you in to?
Reece Mastin
I’ve been in some pretty hardcore bands but apart from that I’ve just been to a lot of pop shows and stuff.
You’ve had an incredible run since winning The X Factor, what’s been the biggest change in your life?
Reece Mastin
Yeah [laughs]. Everything probably. Everything’s changed, for sure.
